When dropping off my boat to them for winterization, one of their employees started towing my boat while me and my elderly father were on the boat putting the cover on. My dad was in the back near the swim ladder and almost fell off the boat. While we were screaming for him to stop, he didn’t hear us, and then backed my boat into another boat on a trailer. My outboard pierced into the wood portion of another boat’s trailer. The employee laughed when he realized and gave an insincere apology. To make matters worse, they called me after looking at the boat saying it needed a $875 repair to replace all the gaskets in the outboard due to a leak, in the same area of my outboard that was rammed into another boat, which left me wondering if that was the reason my outboard suddenly needed such an expensive service. The owner Dan refused to provide any kind of compensation for this, he was rude and condescending on the phone, interrupting me on more than one occasion. He acknowledged me and my dad were put in danger by his employee but that it didn’t matter ultimately because we weren’t actually injured. I took my boat elsewhere and the mechanics at the new place ran some tests and did not find any gaskets that needed to be replaced. This leads me to believe Oakland were lying about how to fix the issue with my outboard in order to charge us a large sum of money. From my personal experience, Oakland Marine is a careless and dishonest business.

Dan & Steve are super knowledgeable on anything boat related. You can call and they take the time to answer questions. Super nice guys. Love getting all of my winterization and spring service done. They do everything. I just drive it to the launch and then in the spring, I pick it ip from the launch. Talk about simple service.

Dropped my boat off for winterization, an oil change and wrap. Upon drop-off I indicated to their mechanic that I was having issues with my center ballast draining. He and I walked to the boat and I demonstrated to him the problem, that the intake pump worked but the out pump did not work. He said he’d look into it and let me know. I gave a verbal for one hour of labor and asked them to call me when they had investigated and figured out what was wrong. I was driving by and noticed my boat was wrapped. Stopped in to ask if it was ready to go and asked what he ended up finding wrong with the center ballast and he said he checked the ballasts in the rear lockers and winterized them and they were fine. I never asked him to touch these. I reminded him it was the center ballast and he realized his mistake and just walked off frustrated and said he’d call me later. Eventually I got a call saying the work was done (without even telling me what work would be done prior to completion) and that the boat was ready for pickup. At pickup I tried to get the two rear ballast winterizations waived because I didn’t even ask for or authorize that work and he just said “well I did you a favor because there was some water in there”. They’re two bags with some Home Depot plastic pipe and cheap pumps. They were drained before I pulled the boat. Total overcharge was $144, and they rushed the other repairs without even seeking authorization because they screwed up on their end initially. I ended up eating the $144 because the woman at the front desk just seemed inconvenienced by my mere presence and the mechanic didn’t want to own his mistake. We’ll go elsewhere moving forward. Very disorganized outfit that seems like they take on more work than they can handle and don’t keep very good track of work orders. The best customer service experience ever. Needed a part for a boat and although Dan didn’t stock the part , he spent some time finding a source that I could order on my own. Very informative, knowledgeable, helpful and honest business man. I will definitely give him my business anytime!
